EXHIBITION "Olarias do Alentejo"

The pottery is without doubt one of the earliest manifestations of folk art.
The pottery in Portugal, and in particular in Alentejo, results from a selection of knowledge that was the legacy by the people who lived here over the centuries. They all left their mark, either the Romans or the Arabs, for example, were responsible for the introduction of new parts, techniques of manufacture and decoration.
In the middle Ages, the production of clay and craftsman, acquired an important and prominent role, because the court used many parts in their innumerable banquets.
In the nineteenth century the craftsman reaches the status of master, in contrast to the mechanized production already used in height.
In the 80s of the twentieth century, the pottery has become recognized as an expression of cultural root value.
In our exhibition include succinctly potters centers Flor da Rosa, S. Pedro do Corval, Redondo, Estremoz, Viana do Alentejo and Nisa.
